  • Partial translation of Russian отказник (otkaznik), from otkazat "to refuse," with the English word "refuse." (source) The Russian suffix -nik was maintained in Jewish circles because of its use in Yiddish and Yiddish-influenced English words, like "nudnik" and "allrightnik."
